This guided tour takes you to two medieval villages in the Empordà region, the castle that Salvador Dalí gave to his wife Gala, and the former fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell on the Costa Brava.
We begin by visiting Castle Gala Dalí in Púbol, which Dalí gave as a present to his wife and whose interior he spent much tie and creative energy decorating. The castle is one of Dalí’s most entertaining master works and we will visit some of the its rooms and its surprising garden.
From here we head off to the villages of Monells and Peratallada in the heart of the region of L’Empordà. First, we will wander through the stone streets and squares of Monells to discover the evolution and special details of its architecture before moving onto the medieval centre of the village of Peratllada. Here we will see its castle, medieval walls and clock tower, the vaulted town square and the church of Sant Esteve.
We will have lunch in a restaurant with charm.
After lunch we will move onto Calella de Palafrugell, one of the highlights of the Costa Brava and a village that still retains the charm of the fishing villages that once dotted this coastline. We will visit its narrow streets and its white porched houses overlooking the sea, and enjoy the full glories of its traditional architecture.
Calella is also known for its beaches and coves and so we will stroll along the coast path to climb one of the cliffs overlooking this stretch of the Costa Brava. Finally, we will visit the Cap Roig Botanical Garden, one of the most important such gardens in the whole of the Mediterranean, where in summer the prestigious Cap Roig Musical Festival is held. In these gardens we will visit the Plaça del Castell, the cactus garden, the Mirador de la Lady, the Geranium Walk and the Bassin Terrace, among other parts of the garden, to get an idea of the full riches of its landscapes.
